Medication- Assisted Treatment

There are currently three medications approved for the treatment of opioid use disorders – methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. Methadone has been used in the treatment of opioid use disorders for more than 50 years. Methadone is a synthetic long-acting opioid that is used to manage withdrawal symptoms for those suffering from opioid use disorders. Numerous research studies have shown methadone to be safe and effective in the treatment of narcotic addiction. At the appropriate dose, a patient’s opioid withdrawal symptoms will be alleviated, which will help to reduce the cravings for continued use of opioids. Once freed from the obsession to use opioids, patients are then able to address various issues related to their substance use in their scheduled individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Tadiso, Inc. has been providing methadone treatment to individuals in the Pittsburgh area for the past 50 years.

Methadone medication is provided to patients on a daily basis. Medication stations are open Monday-Friday 6 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are closed Saturday and Sunday. Once a patient has become stable in abstinence and recovery, the frequency of visits to the clinic can be reduced with take-home bottles of medication.

Suboxone- Buprenorphine patients are evaluated and treated during office visits and receive a prescription for Suboxone, which they may fill at any pharmacy. Call 412-322-8415 ext: 112 for an appointment.

An essential element of any treatment for substance use disorders is counseling. Tadiso, Inc. has a staff of 25 Master’s level counselors providing group and individual therapy for patients. Counseling services are available Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. In the one-on-one counseling sessions, counselors work with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan to address each person’s particular situation. Counselors use various approaches such as reality therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, Gestalt therapy, person-centered therapy, and existential therapy, depending on what may best work with the individual.

Group therapy sessions are also offered using evidenced-based approaches and interventions. Group sessions focus on issues such as cocaine abuse, benzodiazepine abuse, abstinence skills, relapse prevention, developing sober support, safe recreational activities, and recovery support services. Experiential group sessions such as art therapy, exercise therapy, and relaxation therapy are also offered.

Pregnancy Checkup

Women’s Health

Specialized groups for women are also offered such as women’s health issues, pregnancy and methadone, and postpartum support for women on methadone. A parenting group is also offered for first time mothers in treatment. These group session often include speakers from Magee Women’s hospital and other such agencies.

Pregnant Incarcerated Women

Pregnant women who are incarcerated and who have an opioid use disorder will be afforded medication-assisted treatment coordinated with the Allegheny County Jail. Tadiso, Inc has entered into an agreement with the jail to provide methadone treatment for these women on a weekly basis.

Family Therapy

Family therapy sessions are also included in Tadiso’s counseling services. Recognizing that substance abuse affects all members of a family unit, family therapy sessions provide not only education and support but also the opportunity to work through some of the family dynamics that may impact an individual’s recovery efforts.
